What is Red Reishi?
Red reishi (Ganoderma lucidum, ling zhi) is a medicinal mushroom and it is known as the “mushroom of immortality” by herbal practitioners. Part of the reason for that, is its wide range of medicinal effects. It has been used for centuries as an effective adaptogen, immune modulator, and a general tonic.
Now, as modern medicine struggles to mimic the healing powers of natural substances, the ancient secrets of red reishi are in the forefront of today’s health industry.
Red Reishi History
Around 2730 BC, a Chinese emperor, Shen Nong, personally tasted and catalogued over 365 herbs to create the first book of Traditional Chinese Medicine. With each herb he ranked them based on three criteria: the range of illnesses they treated, how effective they were, and the number of side effects they had.
Of all the herbs he investigated, red reishi was classified as the champion of the “Superior” herbs. Why? Because reishi has the ability to improve a wide array of health conditions without any side effects.
So rare and revered, red reishi was once reserved only for royalty. It’s importance in ancient Asian history is depicted in historical paintings, embroideries, buildings, sculptures, and carvings of the gods and immortals.
